3M™ Adhesive Transfer Tape 9498 offers excellent flying splice and core starting wet grab characteristics. It is typically used in the printing industry and performs well at process speeds exceeding 2,000 feet per minute. This tape can be used in ovens up to 450ºF (232ºC) if dwell times are ten seconds or less and up to 250?F (232?C) for longer periods.

Ideal for Rigorous Splicing Applications
Once bonded, 3M™ Adhesive Transfer Tape 9498 provides excellent peel and shear strength – making it ideal for rigorous splicing applications and bonding plastics to metals. It features 2.0 mil high tack acrylic adhesive mounted on a tan 60 lb. densified kraft paper liner for ease in die cutting applications.

Recommended Applications

Web splicing

Core starting

General purpose bonding

A Well-Balanced Adhesive
The adhesive is a medium-firm pressure sensitive acrylic adhesive system. It features an excellent balance of good initial adhesion (quick stick) and good shear holding power. Shear strength is the measure of pull force directed across the bonded surface, forcing the two surfaces to slide over each other. The formulation gives the adhesive a consistently strong bond across a range of temperatures, from 180°F (82°C) long term to 250°F (121°C) short term and in 450ºF (232ºC) if dwell times are ten seconds or less. By using a robust 60 lb. densified kraft paper release liner, this tape provides reliable performance for industrial applications, such as die-cutting and automated dispensers.

What is Adhesive Transfer Tape?
?3M™ Adhesive Transfer Tapes are rolls of pressure sensitive adhesive pre-applied to a special release liner. For application, the tape is simply pressed, adhesive side down, to a surface and the liner is peeled off. A variety of adhesive properties and liners are available to meet requirements for applications such as nameplate attachment to high and low surface energy plastics, appliance graphic overlays that perform in high temperatures, foam gasketing, web splicing, signs, posters, banners, point-of-purchase displays, and more.

3M 9498 Features:
  • Ultra-high peel strength and excellent shear strength to withstand rigorous splicing applications
  • Bonds well to most substrates, including low surface energy plastics
  • Moderate temperature resistance up to 250?F (121?C)
  • 60lb Densified Kraft (DK) liner for ease in die-cutting operations
  • Conformable to irregular surfaces
3M 9498 Specifications:
  • Color: Transparent
  • Package Quantity: 48 RLS
