The Von Roll 7031-1G is a clear, modified phenolic insulating varnish and adhesive. It will air dry and can also be baked to a tough, thermosetting resin. Its electrical and bonding property combined with its chemical resistance and good saturating property makes it an excellent varnish to use where good adhesion, heat aging, moisture and oil resistance, and high hot bonding strength is desired.
As an adhesive, 7031-1G bonds a wide variety of material, has fast tack time, and may be air dried or baked. It is an excellent adhesive for laminating many types of material. 7031-1G adhesive may be applied to a part to be bonded; then either baked shortly after applying or allowed to air dry and then be baked hours, days, or even weeks after the part has been assembled or stored. When an air-dried film of 7031-1G is baked, the resin melts, fuses, and converts to a strong, thermoset adhesive.
As an insulating varnish, 7031-1G is excellent as a finish coat over another varnish and for treating a small motor, transformer, or another component where excellent moisture resistance is required. When thinned to a low viscosity, 150 cps or less, 7031-1G varnish is excellent for coating a printed circuit where protection is desired against moisture, oil, dirt, etc. It is being used for sealing an oil-filled capacitor in place of a soldered seam. It has also found wide usage as an insulating adhesive at a liquid helium temperature in the field of cryogenics.
Application
As an adhesive, 7031-1G has been used with metal, various synthetic and treated rubber, glass, cellulose, phenolic, and another laminate or molded part and a wide variety of porous and non-porous material. Because of its high-temperature resistance when baked, 7031-1G adhesive is especially useful in bonding the layer of a large or small field coil and for bonding lamination.
Processing
Permafil 7031-1G will air dry but should be baked to fully cure to a tough, thermosetting resin. Baking time may range from 1-4 hours at a temperature between 212
Storage condition – Shelf life
The shelf life for Permafil 7031-1G is 12 months when stored at room temperature (77
