Ions are attracted to your sensitive electronics. Gradually the relationship ends in neutralized static—and often ESD damage. Not all connections have to be complicated. It's a big decision! Or, is it? Benchtop real estate is valuable. If you're in a tight spot, you may prefer a small workstation model or an overhead ionizer. Remember, benchtop devices are used to neutralize a localized work space and are not designed for in-line processes. Also, overhead models and some small benchtops are suspended above the workstation to help ensure no objects are blocking your flow of ionized air.
Under the Gun?
Sometimes removing static and contaminants from surfaces or parts can be tricky. Blow away potential problems on three-dimensional parts or micro-components with small openings and channels. Handheld guns use compressed air to control the flow of ions toward the work area in graphics, optics, electronics assembly, plastics fabrication and other environments. Stick to your guns, and you'll also blow off operator fatigue.
