The Hexacon SI-700 Heavy Duty Screw Tip Iron is a 700-watt industrial soldering iron designed for applications that require high thermal mass, maximum heat transfer, and broad tip coverage. Built for heavy-duty soldering tasks, the SI-700 features an oversized screw-mounted chisel tip and a rugged construction intended for demanding production, construction, and repair environments. The heavy-duty screw tip design provides substantial thermal capacity and a large working surface area. The standard copper tip can be shaped to meet specific application requirements, making the SI-700 adaptable to a wide range of large-scale soldering tasks. For continuous production use, Hexacon recommends Xtradur tips, which are designed for extended service life and should not be filed. The SI-700 incorporates a nickel-wound heating element insulated with high-dielectric mica and wound on a conductive brass core. Hexacon manufactures its elements with a ±2% resistance tolerance, fully burns them in to stabilize wattage, and dielectric-tests them at 1200V. This construction helps maintain consistent idling temperatures, fast recovery, and long service life. The element outer case is machined from a solid piece of high-strength, nickel-plated alloy steel for exceptional durability. Its hexagonal shape allows the iron to be secured in a vise or gripped with a wrench during maintenance without damaging the housing.A burn-resistant neoprene power cord is designed to withstand accidental contact with the heated iron. The three-wire grounded construction improves operator safety, while the optional Posi-Ground configuration provides less than two millivolts of steady-state leakage for MIL-equivalent applications and sensitive components.
